April 3rd, 2008
As of today there are only 9 days left until Go Live. That’s kinda scary. The office is crazy, everyone’s stressed, and I get a cold. Or maybe it’s allergies. But despite the pre-arranged madness, it’s all good.
Except that I’ve basically been living at the office. 10 – 12 hour days are the norm. So when I’m scheduled 12 hours a day for the second half of April, it won’t seem like that big of a deal… aside from the whole having to work the graveyard shift. But that overtime is nice. Not only do I get paid time and a half for time over eight hours (yes, I get it daily, not weekly), I also get paid time for working during the part of the day that’s not normal for me. So I effectively get paid 2.5 times over. If I didn’t have so many bills incurred while moving, it would be nicer. As such, most goes towards paying all that off.
And today. Today is beautiful. It was hovering above freezing when I walked in this morning, but on the way home it was about 62. There’s so little humidity here that you can really feel the difference when the sun comes up or goes down. Anyway, my meeting went short today, which it never does, so we adjourned early. And on a whim, I left the office… before five! Mind you my normal quitting time is 4:00, so only one hour late. Not too shabby.
I don’t know if I ever realised how far north Portland is. It’s only the beginning of April, but we already have more than 12 hours of daylight. It’s up when I walk in around 7, and it sets around 8 at night. And there’s still two more months of it getting lighter! It surprises me because I don’t remember it being that dark in winter. Maybe I just wasn’t paying attention.
Anyway, that’s my life since whenever I wrote last. If you don’t hear from me until May, don’t worry. I’ll resurface eventually.
